Matric farewell becomes violent at Cape Town club
A matric farewell after-party nightmare ensued at popular Cape Town night club, Madison Avenue.
What should follow probably the most sought-out affair for any matric besides graduating, is the matric farewell after-party.
It’s when students can go out and celebrate their near-graduation from High School.
A VIP party at Madison Avenue in the CBD was organized by the committee for the students of Bellville High School, but the night of fun turned into a night of injury.
Some were allegedly beaten, sustaining knee and back injuries as well as cellphones and purses going missing- interesting as the VIP area was meant to be completely private and secure, strictly meant for those with the correct armbands sold by the committee to the students.
Violent Avenue
Apparently older men made their way into the VIP area shortly after the students arrived and started making advances towards the girls.
One of the Matrics complained to security, but was ignored.
When an altercation ensued, her partner tried to intervene and was beaten. Friends who came to their aid were apparently pepper-sprayed by security.
In an open letter, Madison Avenue said how concerned they were with the incident and were desperately trying to find out what happened and offered to pay for the medical bills of those injured.
Events are brought to the club by a promoter, which in this case was Dash Productions, and extra security is added by the promoters to ensure a safe event.
“Access to and from the area is strictly controlled and enforced,” the club said.
The owner of Dash Productions, who worked with the Bellville High School Committee, said that he doesn’t know if there were older men at the party.
He just supplied the armbands for the committee to sell, and that only those with the pink armbands were allowed in.
Committee members deny having sold any armbands to people other than pupils.
It’s sad when what’s meant to be a fairytale ends up as a matric farewell after-party nightmare.
