Watch Massive Attack’s 3D play a surprise DJ set at Climate Protest
Massive Attack’s 3D came out to show support for the climate protest.
On Monday, 22 April Robert Del Naja, known as 3D from Massive Attack, played a surprise DJ set at the Extinction Rebellion climate protest in London.
The protest, currently in its second week, has mobilized thousands of climate activists in nonviolent disruption across the city, with efforts centralized in Marble Arch, where 3D performed.
Extinction Rebellion, the group behind the protests, hopes to open negotiations with London mayor Sadiq Khan about the steps the British capital will be taking regarding climate policies.
Taking the antagonist’s approach, Khan urged protestors to let London return to “business as usual.” Approximately 1 000 protestors have been arrested thus far.
Massive Attack against climate change
Massive Attack have had a long road of political activism, speaking out against issues such as British foreign and domestic policies, human rights, the Trident nuclear programme, civil rights, the displacement of people and refugee crises in locations such as Palestine, Lebanon and Syria, as is chronicled in a new book on the band called ‘Out of the Comfort Zone.’
The band recently had to postpone their upcoming tour due to illness.
The tweet showing the clip of 3D’s performance from Extinction Rebellion reads:
“Tranquil moment in DJ set from 3D @MassiveAttackUK at Marble Arch #ExtinctionRebellion. Everyone sharing stories from the week, bridges, music, food, arrests, being met by legal observers at 4am outside police stations, new friends, inspiration. Real emergency, real XR community.”
