Watch this Mariah Carey debut DJ set at 1Oak in Las Vegas
So this happened… Mariah Carey debuted as a DJ at 1Oak in Las Vegas this past weekend.
Sure you can call it a DJ set or you can call it what it really was, an unworthy display by a diva that has accumulated more than enough money and fame in her lifetime.
The idea to have Mariah Carey DJ at 1Oak was clearly an attempt at publicity. While getting attention was the objective, it is the kind of attention that is embarrassing.
This is not 1995 girl…
Mariah girl, it is not 1995 anymore and your diva status is already firmly established. One would assume that being the world class singer that you are, you needn’t take grabs at top billing and photo ops like someone desperately trying to bust out on the scene and get some show time.
It must be tough not getting the same attention as before. The world that these pop stars live in appears to be vacuous, fleeting, and shimmery.
Mariah Carey is worth $520 million dollars though (she’s also engaged to a billionaire) and could be living it up anywhere in the world. But the limelight beckons and like many fading stars it seems to be hard to resist.
This Mariah Carey debut DJ set at 1Oak basically had DJ Suss One spinning while she careened in the DJ box, hung onto Suss One, chatted to him, took pictures, and smiled at the camera while she waved to her fans.
At one point she popped on the headphones and placed her hands on the CDJ decks like she was about to do something. Mariah clearly did not care whether or not she actually did DJ and she probably didn’t take a few lessons beforehand, even if it was to try and fool everyone. Nobody seemed to care though; they all seemed pretty stoked to have “Mariah in the building”.
1Oak stands for ‘one of a kind’ describing the club as a place that “represents the passion of the Avant-garde and embraces the new and the unknown”.
