LSD boosts creativity says new study
LSD boosts creativity according to a new study by well known drug researcher, David Nutt. The study was carried out by the Imperial College in London.

They established a well known fact that listening to music enhances an LSD trip. Recently David Nutt along with Dr. Neiloufar Family and other notable peers published a study that explored the relationship that LSD has with language.
It was titled “Semantic activation in LSD: evidence from picture naming”. The study was carried out with ten individuals who were each given LSD and placebo one week apart. Then they were asked to name a sequence of images. They discovered that those who were on LSD had their relationship with logic and language altered and it was this that influenced the LSD boosts creativity theory.
“Results showed that while LSD does not affect reaction times, people under LSD made more mistakes that were similar in meaning to the pictures they saw.” Said Dr. Neiloufar Family
Generic defocusing, hyper-associative effect
LSD boosts creativity thanks to something called “generic defocusing, hyper-associative effect”. The research found that LSD seems to affect the brain’s words and concepts functions.
“Inducing a hyper-associative state may have implications for the enhancement of creativity. The effects of LSD on language can result in a cascade of associations that allow quicker access to far away concepts stored in the mind.”
Those involved in the study who took LSD were most likely to incorrectly identify the images, when compared to those who had the placebo.
The times that the participants on LSD did manage to correctly name and image, they would use words that were similar to the picture. For instance if they saw a dolphin they may have said ‘fish’ instead. It seems that LSD boosts creativity because it alters brain functioning to include more than just the reality that you see in front of you.
The researchers also added that the study could lead to a better understanding of “the neurobiological basis of semantic network activation.”
