Listen to the EFF’s #ZuptaMustFall remix
The EFF has chosen an original way to press forward with their political campaigning against the ANC and one of its big influencers, the Gupta family with their #ZuptaMustFall campaign.
We picked this up off Pulse Radio yesterday.
Their track #ZuptaMustFall is a catchy township funk house tune of ringtone worthy status. If anything, the decision to spread their message with a house music track is a clever way to appeal to young voters, and to influence apathetic or uninvolved young people in South Africa to sit up and take notice.
You may feel precious over the fact that politicians are taking to producing dance music in order to achieve relevance, but you need not be too ruffled over it. The #ZuptaMustFall track forms part of a campaign that has very little if nothing at all to do with music. The song is merely a medium to help the EFF with getting into the minds of young people.
It’s a lot like what the Obama media team did during his first run for presidency in America. They got artists like Young Jeezy, Jay Z, Ludacris, Chris Martin, Beyonce, Flo-rida and others to write about him in their music and speak out in public support of his campaign. The objective was to get into the hearts and minds of young voters by influencing them to vote Democrat in what was for many their first election.
The only thing that the EFF is doing here with #ZuptaMustFall is cashing in on the well known effect that music has on people.
The YouTube video of the track features a numbered list of all of the corrupt deals that the Gupta family had and continues to brew up with the help of the ANC. It also touches on the amount of control the Guptas seemingly have over the ANC and its decisions regarding the economical decisions of running the country.
According the EFF…
“(His) corrupt relationship has compromised democracy and its institutions. It uses EFF’s protest in Parliament during the state of the nation address where the CIC Julius Malema used the acronym “Zupta” to speak about Zuma and Gupta combined to fall. It aims to raise awareness, critique and mobilise all people to speak in one voice in the demand that #ZuptaMustFall.”
