Belgian artist Lektrique robbed ahead of Grietfest 2016
Belgian DJ/Producer Lektrique is set to perform at Grietfest 2016 this weekend but the unfortunate artist had his backpack stolen yesterday, 24th August.
You’d be forgiven if you’d assumed this happened in downtown Johannesburg since it’s not that an uncommon occurrence. Foreigners (tourists) in any country are easy targets for thieves but on this occasion Lektrique has not in fact even left Europe yet.
Sadder still is it’s his birthday today so this happened just one day before. According to a post he made on Facebook his backpack contained his passport, money, ID, credit cards, and a hard drive with all his music projects on, which is the one thing that is probably hurting the most.

Some good news
But Lektrique is one stellar fella and he has already made plans to get a new passport on Friday and hop on a plane on Friday evening. This means he’ll be cutting it fine by arriving on Saturday (not sure when he was supposed to arrive) but he should make his set as long as no further snags are hit along the way.
So the good news is twofold; Lektrique has not let this get him down and will still make Grietfest and [breathes a sigh of relief] the stolen backpack never happened in South Africa. This is a good thing for us and our country and also better for him, since if it had happened here he may not have had backup material to perform with.
Sometimes there is a silver lining to crappy situations if you look hard enough. J
Lektrique is set to perform the final set on Saturday night on the Olmeca Main Stage at 8 PM. He’ll literally be climbing off the plane, grabbing a couple of hours rest to freshen up and then it’ll be party time!
