Legendary Dub band 340ml regroups as 340million
It looks like the legendary Mozambican dub/reggae band 340ml have regrouped and morphed into 340 million, an 3 -piece electronic based version of their former selves.
In an interview with Red Bull, Tiago (guitarist) reveals ALL.
The laidback sound of 340ml permeated through South Africa in the early 2000’s with a brilliant mix of dub, reggae, jazz and ska.
If you haven’t consciously heard their music before, your subconscious has definitely picked up their singles “Midnight,” and “Fairy Tales.’
The band was comprised of Paulo Chibanga, Rui Soeiro, Tiago Correia-Paulo and Pedro Pinto, and if their names didn’t give it away, they all hail from Mozambique although 340ml was birthed in Johannesburg.
Sadly the group disbanded in 2012 due to normal circumstances like complacency in music and the lack of taking risks as well as ‘growing up’ to venture into business and start families.
But that beat continued to shake their souls and now they are coming back!

Although 340ml disbanded, they all pretty much ventured into music-related businesses like starting music festivals, managing bands and scoring films, forever staying close to the beat.
Guitarist Tiago went on to start a producing/DJing project under the alias “A Million Things,” which led to him tinkering around in the studio, remixing and rearranging 340 ml songs into electronic versions- “Something more upbeat, dancey and contemporary,” Tiago says.
He then played the rearranged tracks to Pedro and Rui (who was also DJing at the time). Rui and Tiago performed a show under the moniker 340ml Soundystem and the rest is history that’s currently in the making.
As is their nature, they aren’t in a rush to get back out there but rather enjoy the inspiration that comes from jamming together, making music and taking it to the next level.
