Laurent Garnier documentary Kickstarter launched
Director Gavin Rivoire presents the Laurent Garnier documentary: Off the Record.
Laurent Garnier has been making the planet dance for 30 years.
One of the pioneering DJs of the dance music scene, he experienced first-hand the euphoria of the acid-house movement in Manchester and has taken the world by storm ever since.
As one of the leading lights in French dance music, he spread his message across the planet, from raves to warehouse parties, clubs to festivals.
The Laurent Garnier documentary, titled Off the Record, was announced on Kickstarter yesterday, and takes a close-up look at Garnier as it aims to “tell the story of the last great musical revolution of the 20th century through the eyes of one of its pioneers.”
Off the Record
Director Gavin Rivoire was given “complete and never-before-seen personal and professional access” to Garnier for 3 years, which mainly focuses on his 2018-2019 world tour and includes interviews with techno pioneers such as Jeff Mills, Carl Cox, Derrick May and more.
“I have always been very touched by [Rivoire’s] sense of rhythm, narration and staging,” says Garnier. “I love the intimacy and the poetry that emerges from each of his films, and I am always amazed and moved by the way he uses—and visualises—the music.”
Off the Record comes with a Kickstarter campaign with a funding goal of $1, meaning it will be fully-funded regardless of contributions.
As of this writing, $82 645 has been donated towards the creation of the film.
