Tenant blasts rave music 24/7, landlord must pay noise complaint fines
Noise complaint are just as bad as they sound.
We all know how it feels to be on both sides of the spectrum; the noise maker and the silence seeker.
There are times when we want to play our music with gusto at the expense of those seeking peace and quiet. There are also times when we wish quiet when those around blast their music.
One Staffordshire tenant took it to the limit when he played rave music from the likes of Stardust and Jakotta loud and at times for up to 36 hours at a time.
His neighbours noted he especially favoured Stardust’s 1998 classic “Music Sounds Better with You” as well as “American Dream” by Jakotta.
This resulted in everything but a “rave of a time” for his landlord.
It’s going to be a fined day
The tenant, who has since moved out leaving no forwarding address, has left the landlord of the building to deal with fines exceeding $20 000.
The landlord obviously gave warnings to the noisy tenant, who admitted to playing music, though softly.
As relative as ‘softly’ may be, it was loud enough for the local council to seize stereo equipment from the offending house.
The fines include:
-$12 950 for breaching the Noise Abatement Notice
-$7 770 in fees to the council
-$220 in surcharges.
The landlord has since sold the property, though the nature of that building will be haunting him for a long time.
He is sick with worry over how he is going to pay the fines, especially since he is not to blame.
I guess that’s the role of landlord though- you need to manage who stays there and what they do.
Noise complaints are no quiet matter!
