The 9th Labyrinth birthday has been set for Saturday 9 August. To celebrate, Cape Town’s longest running beloved psy-trance brand is going through a “Tranceformation” (presented by Olmeca Tequila) at a brand new venue.
Labyrinth birthday plans: the juicy bits
Organisers promise that the Labyrinth birthday line-up will showcase a diverse selection of electronic psy — from psychedelic artists, to progressive producers and a bit of night-time psy thrashing.
Bringing the outdoor experience indoors, Labyrinth will be spreading its psychedelic wings in the Old Land Bank (QV54) on Queen Victoria Street in Cape Town. The historic space is set to be the surreal backbone to high quality production – Labyrinth will feature a Function-One soundsystem, KilowattAV lighting and production, Luminos décor, and plenty party specials from Olmeca Tequila and Red Bull on the night.
What DJs and the Godfather of Labyrinth are saying
“I’m amazed and blessed at how far LAB has come!” says Dean Fuel (aka Feedback) co-founder and ‘Godfather’ of the brand. “Humble beginnings aside; we’ve always strived to host the best artists and music around, and to create a space where people could come hang out, interact, and party! Somehow it all just ‘clicked’. I think that has a lot to do with its huge success, the fact that it was our passion project … [after] all these years later it’s still that!”
Broken Toy (aka James Copeland aka Sad Paradise) has been regular on the line-up since inception, according to him: “The thing that has always stood out for me is what a slick production Lab is. Psy has come a long way and the quality of an average gig nowadays is much better than it was, but even 9 years ago Lab was way ahead of the curve. Professional, slick and clean; from décor to beats. Its psy ethics married to high-end club production—that’s not something that’s easy to get right. Nobody does it like Labyrinth!”
Nano Records’ HEADROOM agrees. “Lab has been pivotal in tastefully introducing psy-trance to Cape Town’s urban socialites. Through years of quality events, they have successfully provided a brilliant platform for the scene to grow and for artists like myself to connect with that new audience.”
