Giegling label founder Konstantin slags female DJs
Konstantin ‘Can’tstandhim?’
The similarities are uncanny.
The co-founder of revered electronic music label Griegling has a very chauvinistic view of women in the DJing industry.
A journalist for the German magazine Groove met with him on a train to conduct an interview and when the subject of women in the DJ game came up he was not reluctant with his anti-feminist views.
Loosely translated from German, he feels that women are not warranted the attention they get.
He believes it’s unfair that women “are so heavily promoted, although they are in his opinion usually worse at DJing than men are,” the article states.
The article goes on saying that he thinks that to break-through in the male-dominated field of DJing, women should adapt accordingly and lose their female qualities to become manlier.
The Black Madonna took to Twitter to give her own account of a run-in with ‘Can’tstandhim’
So, I’ll read the article but last week Konsti said and I quote “You’re a feminist? You might not want to be around me. I’m a chauvinist.”

Re-butt-al
And let the back-peddling commence.
Following the article report Konstantin sent a response to Mixmag asserting his regret of what he said in the original Groove article: (bring out the tiny violins)
“I feel deeply sorry about the words that have been printed. These words are not a direct quote and are in my opinion misleading. I actually learned to DJ from my friend Sarah and of course I don’t think women are worse DJs than men. I completely regret what was said in that private conversation with the journalist where she did not appreciate my bad sense of humor and my habit of taking opposite positions to challenge people, even if it sometimes goes way beyond my own opinion. What was written does not reflect my opinion nor is it at all anything other people from the label would ever say or feel. I accept the journalist’s point on the boy’s club. But we want women to be involved and we were always trying to involve women in our action.”
Oh, why thank you Konstantin, that totally clears things up!
