Kandeyce Jorden presents Girl: A documentary about female DJs
Kandeyce Jorden presents Girl, a look into the lives of female DJs.
15 years in the making, Girl takes an extensive look at some of the world’s most formidable female DJs (DJanes if you feel) and will be released on 1 June.
The documentary tells the story of fierce females rocking a male dominated industry and includes features from the likes of Sandra Collins, DJ Rap, DJ Irene, Colette and DJ Lady D.
Interestingly, the movie follows Jorden as she explores the electronic music scene from the early 2000’s, when the scene started gaining serious momentum and how relevant a lot of points remain to this day.
What started as more of an interview-based project blossomed into a life-changing journey when she met and connected with legendary Sandra Collins.
Girls gone beautifully wild
During filming, Sandra allegedly told Kandeyce that in order to gain a true understanding of the scene; she would have to get involved, leading the filmmaker to dive straight into the world of electronic music.
She then went on to join Collins on the road, at various gigs around the world including Mexico, Burning Man, culminating in Russia where she saw the not-at-all-glamorous side of touring when she was stranded for days after losing her passport at an after party.
After years of working on the film, Jorden got the final funding needed to finish the soundtrack from a successful IndieGogo campaign in 2015.
In association with Earworm, Girl features music from The Chemical Brothers, Colette, The Crystal Method, The Scumfrog, Gabriel & Dresden, JunkieXL and more.
Girl is more than a party; it shows career-driven women making a name for them through adversity.
