Look out for Kagiso Rabada the DJ on the decks
Kagiso Rabada bowls out the tunes.
Many batsmen have experienced the wrath of SA’s premier fast-bowler, diving and ducking to avoid displacement and now it turns out that KG has another talent that will make you jive.
Recently the Proteas fast-bowler had the audience in awe as he displayed his craftsmanship behind the decks at an Adidas event in Sandton.
Armed with DJ gear including a set of headphones and DJ mixers, this talented man turned his hobby into quality, having many people mistake him for a seasoned pro, what seamless flow.
It’s nothing new to see professionals cross over into different industries, but it’s not often that it’s so successful- his mixes were so flawless it matched that of DJ Fresh or another heavy hitter.
From hobby to pro
His DJ journey started in high school, where he “used to observe when my cousin played. I found it fun, so I carried on from there,” he said.
He then took it to the Proteas camp, playing alongside regular roommate Temba Bavuma.
“When we were in Sri Lanka recently we played together. We realised we both love music, so it’s something we do effortlessly. But we don’t play for the team because that job belongs to the physio. We play for ourselves in the room.”
As for genres, he is open to all so he does have favourite artists.
“I like Black Coffee and DJ Kent. They are my favourites. Whether I will be like them one day, I don’t know. I started this for fun, so let’s see where it ends up.”
