Purple Haze in your brain with Jimi Hendrix-branded Marijuana products
Jimi Hendrix-branded Marijuana products may or may not become a reality.
Alright so we all know that laws regarding Cannabis are become ever more lax, and with that comes the fruition of a billion dollar industry.
Those who can ‘light up’ first, will create the biggest cloud of monetary smoke. Add to that a ‘brand’ that is known by most people in the world, and your business will grow sky-high.
This is the case of Leon Hendrix and the marijuana products he plans to sell using his late-brother’s name.
While it is common knowledge that Jimi was fond of smoking the ‘erb, among other things, he is sadly not alive to give his blessing or condemnation.
These matters are taking up by The Hendrix Estate, which is led by Jimi’s sister, Janie.
High-stakes court battle
When Jimi Hendrix passed away, he didn’t have a will. His estate went to his dad, and when his dad passed away in 2002, control went to Jimi’s sister Janie- leaving his brother Leon with no authority.
They have since been in countless court room battles over licensing, which they eventually settled- until now.
Now, Janie and The Hendrix Estate are suing Leon and his business partner Andrew Pitsicalis to prevent the (further) commercialization of Jimi’s name.
“This action arises from Defendants’ attempts to improperly exploit the intellectual property rights of one of the greatest artists in the history of Rock and Roll music, Jimi Hendrix,” the suit alleges.
As well as “unauthorized use and exploitation of intellectual property rights owned exclusively by the Plaintiffs.”
In response, Leon and Pitsicalis have motioned to toss the case arguing that ‘Jimi Hendrix’ is effectively in the public domain.’
It’s actually insane, because Jimi just wanted to play guitar and sing- he would probably burn all the money if he saw what was going on.
Time will tell whether or not Jimi Hendrix-branded Marijuana products will go ahead with production.
