Instagram users are influential in the music market place
Instagram users are influential in the music market place according to a Nielsen music study commissioned by the app.
The Instagram community has more than four hundred million users worldwide and music is one topic in particular that Instagram users get excited about.
More than half of the photo sharing app’s top ten followed accounts are by musicians. With artists like Selena Gomez and Taylor Swift being the most followed musicians so far.
Last year, Instagram also launched the @music account which focuses on exploring music on the app and the artists who make the music.
More musicians, established and up and coming are ensuring that they have an active Instagram account and that they are sharing and connecting with their followers.
They use their accounts to promote their music, talk about their tours, and more. Often these artists are sharing all new content and/or music on the platform first.
For Instgram users it’s a great way to get a visual and audio fix while the stream of posts is always fluid, spontaneous, and new.
For the first time Instagram worked with Nielsen to commission a music data study analyzing the habits and lifestyles of American music listeners on Instagram.
They carried out the study by surveying more than three thousand respondents and self-identified Instagram users.
What they found is that Instagram users are music fans – they spend more money on music and spend more time listening to music. Pop is of course the most listened to music genre, with hip-hop/rap in second place.
Instagram users are 42% more likely to spend money on music during the year, when compared to the rest of the U.S. population.
They also spend 30% more time weekly listening to music. And they spend twice as much on music every year when compared to those who use other forms of social media.
