Ibiza protest group demands immediate action over noise in beach clubs
Ibiza protest group Prou! wants to hear nothing more from beach clubs.
Ah, Ibiza with your white sandy beaches, crystal clear waters and round the clock fun, it seems that soon you may be ending your run.
From curfews to protests and hotel turmoil, what has gone up appears to be coming down.
Over the past few years there has been a steady increase of local dismay over the “unlimited, disrespectful and excessive” tourism, something which garnered a protest of over 500 people in April.
Now the organisers of the protest, Prou!, is taking further steps towards taking back ‘their island’ and restoring it to the peaceful place it used to be.
In March the council in San Antonio officially passed a law enforcing clubs to close at 3am and open air terraces to shut down at 12am.
Life was a beach
Diario De Ibiza reports that Prou! is accusing representatives of San Jose, San Antonio and Santa Eularia of allowing beach bars and restaurants to play loud music DESPITE last month’s pledge from Vicent Torres, Ibiza’s tourism chief, that beach clubs had been made illegal.
Prou! has now written to local councillors demanding immediate action over beach clubs.
In the letter, the group asks for an explanation as to what measures will be taken against beach clubs that falsely advertise as bars or restaurants, continually getting away with noise pollution.
Earlier this month we reported a 40% price drop in hotel rooms on the island, with tourism having declined dramatically.
Ibiza protest group Prou! are on the move.
