Grand Master Ready D makes history with G-Squad Anthem & Challenge
Grand Master Ready D presents the G-Squad Anthem & Challenge.
Legendary DJ and hip-hop veteran Ready D is getting South Africans dancing to the sound of the ghoema drum with his latest single titled, ‘G-Squad Anthem’.
G-Squad Anthem is a fusion of traditional Cape Town minstrel music known as ghoema, hip-hip, dance music and EDM. It is the first track of its kind and pushes the boundaries of music evolution and has inspired hip-hop dancers of Cape Town to come up with a dance sequence to accommodate the energy and thinking behind the song.
DJ Ready D has partnered with mobile music streaming app, JOOX, to extend this movement. The campaign in essence is a celebration of what made us and will culminate in the G-Squad Album. This signals the launch of the exciting G-Squad Challenge.
G-Squad Challenge
Together, the first challenge will be encouraging dancers, not only from the Western Cape but the entire country, to listen, and use, the G-Squad Anthem to create a dance. Then, share it on social media using #GhoemaDanceChallenge and stand a chance to win hard-cold cash.
The first #GhoemDanceChallenge will be judged by Melissa De Vries, the producer and presenter for “A Walk with Mel”, Voukus, a Cape Town born professional dance with 17 years of experience, Shameelah Kinnear, a professional dancer staring in Honey 3, 2019 and finally, Elivna Vee Da Silva, who opened the dance school – The Rhythm Factory based on Cape Town.
Simply record a dance using the G-Squad Anthem track found on the JOOX app. Use the hashtag #GhoemaDanceChallenge to enter and stand to win.
Producers and rappers want to keep an eye out for the next phase, as we will giving South Africa a chance to remix and rap on this track.
Keep your eye out on @JOOXSouthAfrica on your favourite social media platforms or in-app.
