Future Sound of Mzansi – Watch Online
Future Sound of Mzansi by Spoek Mathambo is being shown via Vice’s THUMP channel on YouTube and you can watch the first of the three-part series now.
The title Future Sound of Mzansi has been around for some time, first as a Spoek Mathambo album of the same name released on Sony Music in 2012 and then also as a series of curated mixed tapes.
Whilst we all thought at the time that it was something of a bold move to call your own music and remixes exclusively the Future Sound of Mzansi, Mathambo’s talent and musical prowess was never, and still is not, doubted. He is indeed a creative soul who, sadly, probably has more success and appreciation abroad than in South Africa.
A further testament to the man’s creative talent, he directed Future Sound of Mzansi along with accomplished new hotshot director, Lebogang Rasethaba.
Lebogang was responsible for filming the South African leg of The Boiler Room sessions for the Ballantine’s Stay True tour, featuring Black Coffee among others.
Future Sound of Mzansi looks at the past, present and future of South Africa’s electronic music scene, touching on the numerous genres that exist in this musical landscape.
Interviews with Okmalumkoolkat, Nozinja, Black Coffee, Christian Tiger School, BIG FKN GUN, DJ Spoko, Jumping Back Slash, Felix Laband, Sibot and many others, all add some gravity to the story he tells.
