Fokofpolisiekar breaks SA crowdfunding record
Fokofpolisiekar launched a crowdfunding page on Thundafund in order to raise R500 000 for a new album.
The band has not released an album in ten years and they are clearly bubbling with creative energy that they can put into a new body of work.
The Fokofpolisiekar crowdfunding page went live last week Monday and at time of writing this has reached R 462,295.
The Cape Town based rock band, is clearly much beloved and fans are eager to help them put out more music. Their last album Swanesang came out in 2006. This new album is said to be released in October this year so there is much to look forward in the world of local rock music.
The overwhelming outpouring of support is indicative of how influential and supportive the local rock music scene is. In just two days of starting the campaign Fokofpolisiekar garnered R180 000. The money that they are raising is intended for album production costs, printing, a music video, marketing costs and various other band related expenses.
Groundbreakers
If Fokofpolisiekar doubted whether or not to make more music in case no one may be interested, it is certain that this is not the case.
“The response has been insane. Our plan was to go live a few days before the March payday and we were not expecting much funds to come in until mid-April. To raise R500K for an album is insane but it is what is needed to create what we have in mind. If we do not reach the goal, everyone is getting their money back and then there is no album.” said Francois van Coke
Well it doesn’t look like they will be giving anyone’s money back now.
If you support the campaign and donate R80 you will get a digital copy of the album 30 days before the commercial release. They plan to record and mix the album in June and July. Pre-orders will go live in September and the album will be out in October.
