It’s time to get your game face on as the FIFA World Cup 2018 anthem is upon us.
The World Cup is just over 3 weeks away, and so it’s time to get hyped up and ready with this year’s edition of the world cup anthem, which will ring throughout the tournament.
The use of an official anthem has been running since 1962 and holds an intrinsic goal; to unite fans over and above their nationalities/teams of choice as well as sticking in everyone’s heads, relentlessly.
As I am writing this, I have Shakira’s ‘Waka Waka’ blaring in my head, taking me back to the 2010 World Cup, held in South Africa.
The FIFA World Cup 2018 anthem is curated by Fresh Prince Will Smith and Diplo.

Although the US men’s team won’t be playing in the World Cup, America can’t help but to squeeze in somehow- but luckily for us it’s in the form of the Fresh Prince, Will Smith, who despite being known for acting, is also a rapper.
The anthem was produced by EDM star Diplo and features Columbian Reggaeton artist Nicky Jam and rising European star Era Istrefi.
The anthem is usually performed at the opening or closing ceremony, and Will Smith will possibly do so too.
They also worked on a video for the track in Columbia with all artists involved, which will be released this Friday, 25 May.
Past anthems include Ricky Martin’s “The Cup of Life” from 1998 and Queen’s iconic “We Are The Champions” from 1994.
