Keeping those Festival Wristbands on not such a good idea
Festival wristbands are kind of gross considering all that you go through at an outdoor party. Therefore it would make sense that keeping them on longer than you need to, would be a bad idea.
But, for those of you who insist on letting the festival wristbands accumulate on your forearms as a sort of trophy, here is a little bad news.
A bacteria analysis was carried out on used festival wristbands and they were found to be a hot bed of putrid germs, the kind that could actually make you sick. Dr. Allison Cottell of the University Of Surrey discovered festival wristbands that contained “a concentration of around 9,000 micrococci and 2,000 staphylococci bacteria on them” which had been festering for two years.
Dr. Allison Cottell is a microbiologist and she chose to determine just what the germ environment of those beloved festival wristbands are like. The wristbands make a wonderful home for breeding bacteria and contained more than twenty times the bacteria you’d find on your clothes.
The doctors says…
“Staphylococci are usually harmless although they can cause boils and infections of cuts and grazes, and can also cause a form of acute food poisoning if they are ingested. It would be advisable not to wear them if working in industries such as healthcare or food preparation, where there is a risk that the bacteria may spread to other people.” Said Dr Cottell
If your waiter, doctor, or nurse is wearing any old festival wristbands show them this article. While the thought of holding on to your skanky festival wristband might seem like an adorable idea to you, it’s quite simply a health risk.
It’s comparable to wearing a piece of clothing, day in and day out without taking it off to give a good wash. Like living in your favourite t-shirt but never ever removing it from your body. It’s probably time to put those precious festival wristbands in your memory box or scrapbook.
