Fans destroy Kimberley event after artist no-show
The Class of 2018 Turn Up Kimberley event was more like a ‘no show, tear down’ than ‘turn up.’
“I hope lying and stealing money from people was worth the damage that was done to your equipment. But we Kimberlites never learn. We always allow wannabe presenters like you to bullshit us. Never ever again”- this is the response of a ticket-buying customer of SA’s biggest event flop this year.
Last weekend, Kimberlites were to be treated to performances by Kwesta, Mobi Dixon, Shane Eagle, Kid X, Bucie, DJ Style O and more at The Class of 2018 Turn Up Kimberley event held by the MIDSA Group.
Only no performances took place, resulting in ticket holders destroying event equipment and property to the damage of millions of rands.
900K budget couldn’t save them…
Mobi Dixon took to Twitter to explain what happened, sharing a picture of the destruction, saying:
This was in Kimberley last night, promoters advertised an event and all artists including myself weren’t paid their balance.”
He added: “No flights or accommodation was booked.”
The promoters didn’t deliver however I don’t condone this behavior! pic.twitter.com/FGyeAYzvG3

Graham Abrahams, Director of MIDSA (event organisers) spoke to The Juice and confirmed that artists didn’t receive full payment, due to their inability to get the required safety documents needed for the event.
After being given a budget of R900 000 and months of planning, everything unravelled prior to the event.
“We had cancelled the event on Tuesday,” Graham said. But that later changed when an agent they were working with urged them not to cancel, promising a new venue with all required paperwork would be available by the 23rd. “Our mistake was getting an agent to do what we’ve been doing for the past three months.”
“We lost around R1.3 or R4 million.” He mentions that the amount given is an estimate based on damages as well tickets that would have to be refunded.
