Facebook and Instagram are censoring sexual emojis
Facebook and Instagram are censoring sexual emojis when used on grounds of solicitation.
Social media giants Facebook and Instagram are censoring sexually-charged fruit and veggie emojis, including the peach and eggplant.
This stems from Facebook’s July update of its Facebook Community Standards language regarding acceptable sexual expression on the social media platforms- which also applies to Instagram.
Does this mean you will be censored when posting about baba ghanoush or watching James and the Giant Peach? No.
Under the new terms, accounts will only be flagged or removed when pairing an eggplant or peach emoji with “being horny,” which now qualifies as “Sexual Solicitation.”
“[Content] will only be removed from Facebook and Instagram if it contains a sexual emoji alongside an implicit or indirect ask for nude imagery, sex or sexual partners, or sex chat conversations,” Instagram tells the New York Post.
“We aren’t taking action on simply the emojis.”
Not so peachy
Emojis covering nude bits on photographs are also a no-go now, as are links or info leading to adult or pornographic material.
Adult actress Kendra James was once banned from Instagram on the grounds of solicitation “after I told a man who DM’d me demanding free nude pics that this was my job and he could join my site,” she tells XBIZ.
One exception to censorship of sexual expression is when using the platforms “to discuss and draw attention to sexual violence and exploitation.”
Although Facebook declined to answer XBIZ’s questions, they did offer a statement:
“We often make updates to our Community Standards. We publish these changes on our Community Standards site so our community is aware. With this update, nothing changed in terms of the policy itself or how we enforce it, we simply updated the language to make it clearer for our community.”
If only Facebook could censor political propaganda instead of putting all their focus on censoring sexual emojis like peaches, eggplants and water droplets.
