Exodus is a nine-minute short film showcasing Riky Rick
Exodus is a nine-minute short film directed by Arcade’s Kyle Lewis and it showcases local hip hop artist Riky Rick.
Exodus was made using five songs off of ‘Family Values’ which is Riky Rick’s debut album which went gold. Riky Rick previously worked with Kyle Lewis on the music video for ‘Fuseg’ which garnered more than one million views on YouTube.
Kyle Lewis is known for his brand of dramatic and visually stimulating videos that tell interesting stories.
Exodus is filled with distinct African symbolism that has the striking quality of the Kyle Lewis touch.
The short film was shot in Khayelitsha, Cape Town. Exodus is a bold move away from the regular music hip hop music video format and the kind of imagery that mainstream hip hop is associated with.
The short film has been described as “pure visual art” by Hype Magazine. OkayAfrica called it “visually stunning” and We-Are-Awesome used the words “next level” when describing the video. Afripop tipped Kyle Lewis as someone who is “increasingly the go-to-guy for the scene’s more pioneering visual treatments.”
Kyle Lewis won the 2014 South African Music Award for Best Music Video for The Parlotones Sleepwalker and he was also shortlisted last year for Tumi In Defense of my Art.
The director/producer is represented by Arcade, a new division of Egg Films that “produces content that falls outside the realm of traditional TV commercials, like brand films, music videos, and web series”.
