Emile YX? says it is time to “Take Our Power Back”
Emile YX? starts 2015 off on a high note thanks to the great things he did in 2014 and the release of his sixth solo album titled ‘Take Our Power Back’, which will be launched on the 17th of January 2015 at Alive Cafe in Muizenberg. The album launch kicks off the promotional tour that will run nationally in May and then head to USA in August.
Last year, has been a good one for Emile YX?, his partner made and honest man out of him by putting a ring on it, he performed at The Kennedy Centre in USA with Black Noise, he lectured at Stanford and Trinity Universities on the topic of Hip Hop, and rounded the year off by teaching all things Hip Hop at libraries across Cape Town, all for free. What a nice guy.
As we mentioned in one of our earlier news posts on Emile YX? he was nominated for an Honorary Award from the South African Hip Hop Awards in Johannesburg, which he won including an Iconic Urban Dance Award in Cape Town.
He is also in the process of completing a book titled ‘Making a Black Noise’.
The book deals with his thirty two year involvement in the world of Hip Hop and how it’s shaped his perception of the struggle for people of colour to truly make a Black Noise in this world.
It tells the story of Hip Hop from its birth in Cape Town in 1982 with break-dancing to the creation of Black Noise, Heal The Hood Project, events, and more.
EmileYX?’s students from his Heal The Hood Projects Practical Hip Hop School have formed a performance group known as, Mixed Mense. They will perform with him at the launch on the 17th January 2015. The event starts at 7pm and entrance is R70 or R150 for entryand a signed copy of the new CD.
