New electronic dance music documentary feat. Carl Cox & Martin Garrix
A new electronic dance music documentary created by filmmaker, Bert Marcus has been announced. The title of the film is “What We Started’ and it features artists such as Carl Cox, Steve Angello, and Martin Garrix.
Previous films made by Marcus include “How to Make Money Selling Drugs” and “Teenage Paparazzo”. Bert has a keen sense for storytelling and if his previous films are anything to go by, then his electronic dance music documentary is going to be a treat.
The documentary takes two separate view points on the electronic dance music scene with Carl Cox on the one end and the younger, Martin Garrix on the other.
The film takes a shot at opening up the misunderstood world of dance music. It captures both the rise to fame of Martin Garrix and the Carl Cox farewell tour.
Past, present and future…
Marcus’ electronic dance music documentary holds up the past, present, and future of the scene and its industry.
“I have passionately strived to create a thoughtful piece that transcends the stereotypes of electronic dance music by telling a story of the layered and inspiring individuals throughout the genre’s history that is all-encompassing, dynamic and unexpected. I believe that this is a misperceived part of the music industry and popular culture with a rich and robust 30-year history that needs to be shared. Through the retirement of pioneer and legend, Carl Cox, to the rise and proliferation of newcomer and recent number one DJ in the world, Martin Garrix, an audience will understand the full narrative of this music in a manner that has never been done before. It was important to me to choose two intriguing and talented characters that fully represent the birth of the music and the present place of the industry, respectively, and these two men are perfect examples of such. I am privileged to have been able to work with these industry icons and I am thrilled to share ‘What We Started’ with the world,” said Bert Marcus.
Just like his other films, his electronic dance music documentary will prove to be both informative and entertaining.
