EDMTV is officially a thing and it’s not good
EDMTV is here and will be making its debut on United States TV provider, DirecTV on the 14th March 2016.
Just picture it, a whole TV channel where Americans talk about the modern version of EDM and the lifestyle and culture that accompanies it. This will either make you jump for joy, cringe, or roll your eyes. The fact that EDM is as huge as it is in the states makes the EDMTV channel an expected and typical next step in the American scene.
America is unmatched in its TV culture and they dominate all aspects of film, comedy, and TV series all over the world. It would make sense that it would occur to some big executives to create a channel that focuses on all of the predominantly young fans who are into the music.
If you dislike the onslaught of “fast food” EDM then this channel and all of its shows is not for you, rest assured it was probably not created with you in mind.
But for those who jam out hard to Avicii, Skrillex, Hardwell, Dimitri Vegas, Martin Solveig and so on, EDMTV might be a happy place. So let them have it, and most of all let’s see what Americans in fact do with a channel such as this.
This is something that is always quite striking about American culture. It’s a tendency towards going big and putting it all out there, with as much energy, excitement, and bravado as they can manage. Even if everyone looking on may be laughing and pointing fingers, they tend to power ahead anyway. It’s tenacious really. I’m expecting that to be a lot of what you’ll see on EDMTV – tenacity and Steve Aoki.
The promo video and website videos look a bit low budget and camera phone low res, which counts against their technical credibility. But since EDMTV is a new channel it might need some time to get it together.
