Dr Tumi hosts Khayelitsha benefit concert 

Dr Tumi is on a mission to spread the love.

Tumi refused to sit by and watch the devastation caused by the recent fires in Khayelitsha, which affected over 4000 people; so he gathered his friends and put on a show of love to help those in need.

The concert was held on Sunday, 28 October and was a huge success; even topping the Twitter trends list. Tumi explained his aim to Tshisha LIVE.

“I decided to get involved in helping with the Khayelitsha crisis because it’s such an overnight life change. Like the one minute those people were fine going about their daily business and the next minute they were homeless with no clothes or food. Having lost everything they had got to me. To realise that people’s lives are forever changed and it happened so quickly for so many people. It struck a nerve with me and I had to get involved.”

A little bit of love goes a long way

The fires ravaged Khayelitsha on the weekend of October 20, 2018. It is reported that 1 person was killed and more than 1 000 shacks were destroyed, displacing more than 4 000 people.

Tumi launched his foundation, Acts of Love, just in time to help with the Khayelitsha fire, but his urge to help has always been there; now he has a solid platform to do so.

“Acts of love is centred around giving and making somebody’s life better. To make people feel loved and to help them through whatever situation they are going through. Any act that does that for people, anything that is that selfless and is just for people, that is an act of love.”

He roped in the likes of Lebo Sekgobela, Khaya Mthethwa, Nqubeko and his wife Ntokozo Mbatha. The concert was free, but attendees were urged bring donations to help those affected.

Dr Tumi is bringing medicine to the people through Acts of Love.
