DJ Fresh lays into promoters wanting to pay artists with exposure
DJ Fresh is an ambassador for fair payment.
For a man that’s literally as Fresh as can be, it’s safe to say he is exposed as possible. I don’t think there’s one person in Mzansi that hasn’t heard his name or knows who he is.
This makes the fact that promoters still try paying him with exposure rather than cash absurd. I mean he literally doesn’t need more exposure, however like the rest of us he needs to pay bonds, buy food and fork out big money for petrol.
Paying with exposure is a reality that plaques many artists, which is why Fresh represented and spoke out against this atrocity.
Reposting a picture from DJ Cleo’s page, Fresh wrote: “It blows my mind that I am on radio every weekday interacting with one million people every 15 minutes, gigging most weekends in the year and some will still offer to compensate me with exposure. True story.”
Exposure doesn’t even buy a chappie
Fresh went on to give those in opposition 3 reasons why paying in exposure is a joke.
“First: I need less exposure. Second: Banks don’t take exposure as payment for my bonds! Third: #ExposaMmao”
His insights have drawn applause from fellow artists, including Moneoa, Heavy K, Simz Ngema and Boity.
Fellow entertainers like Skolopad have also spoken out against the unjust practise, telling TshishaLIVE tales of going off at promoters for trying to lower her price and pay with exposure.
“I have worked too damn hard on my own exposure to be paid peanuts! I don’t deserve peanuts or to be told I’m not worth what I say I am worth. Exposure doesn’t pay the bills, so shove it.”
The picture DJ Fresh reposted from DJ Cleo’s page sums it up perfectly.
