DJ denied gig for being overweight
Producer/DJ Scott Diaz was denied a gig, not for lack of skill, but for being “overweight.”
Wow! What a sad day for a genre that’s meant to embrace all kinds of people.
Not only that, surely bookings for gigs should be based on musical merit instead of looks…Surely we are there to hear epic music, not gawk at the DJ.
So Scott Diaz, who is UK-born and living in Philadelphia, recently had a booking taken away from him because upon second thought the promoters felt that he actually doesn’t fit in with the image of their party or its attendees.
Naturally, as someone in the industry to share music and not to model, Scott was understandably upset.
Another thing is that they approached him in the first place, and then backtracked.
Music, not modeling
As any human living in the social media era, Scott posted the diss on Twitter, which naturally took on a life of its own.
“This thing has become a beast with many heads. I originally shared the post and email thread with the intention of having a bit of a laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, but it’s really taken on a life of its own,” Scott posted on Facebook.
The post goes on to say how grateful he is for the support from people and the opportunities he has to live his passion of music, but also stresses the extension of the image-obsessed Insta-famous culture that’s tearing an industry that’s meant to focus on music and unity apart.
Scott Diaz denied gig for being “overweight” but hopefully this incident can remind everyone to focus on what producers/DJs are here for- music.
Here’s the Twitter thread:
Mental. I’m deadly serious as well.
Is this really what it’s come to??
How the fuck have we fallen this far? We are SO obsessed with image and looks it’s insane. 👎
Gonna post screenshots in a bit.
