DJ David Morales arrested in Japan for possession of MDMA
DJ David Morales has been arrested for slipping up on his morals, yes.
American producer and DJ extraordinaire David Morales has been arrested at a Japanese airport for suspected MDMA possession.
The 56-year old Grammy winner was in Japan to play 2 events on October 6 and 7 in Fukuoka and Tokyo respectively.
Morales arrived at Fukuoka airport in Southern Japan after flying in from Hong Kong at around 15:55 pm on Saturday, October 6.
The Asahi Shimbun, a Japanese newspaper, reported that Morales was stopped at customs after authorities found small amounts of white powder in Morales’ carry-on suitcase.
Police are said to have found 5 granules-or 0.3 grams- of MDMA in his possession.
Aint’ no love for the love drug
A police spokesperson said, “He was arrested for allegedly violating the law on narcotics and psychotropic control.”
Taking an interesting stance against being caught with drugs in his possession, Morales denies the allegations, claiming that the substance didn’t belong to him and that somebody “had likely slipped it into his belongings”, according to police.
Japan is known for its “zero-tolerance” policy on drugs, with possession of MDMA for personal use-no matter the quantity- carrying a minimum jail sentence of 7 years and a 3 million yen (approximately R400 000).
And to think, just the other day Morales’ biggest problem was that Kanye West allegedly stole a bassline from a remix he did 25 years ago. I’m sure that is nowhere in his ‘worry box’ right now.
Time will tell what the fate will be of DJ David Morales.
