Die Antwoord drama might see them in front of the Human Rights Commission
Die Antwoord drama is nothing new to the world.
Their selling point is shock value and, let’s just say, they are touring the world and especially seeing success in the mecca of shock value, America.
This time however they have caused an upset with a Saffa star, Ntsiki Mazwai.
Mazwai in fact is so offended that she wants to take the dubious duo to the Human Rights Commission over the disrespectful nature of their album cover.
Die Antwoord’s last album cover art depicts Ninja clad in the traditional blanket and hat usually used in the Xhosa circumcision ceremony.
Though the album was released last year, it recently resurfaced on social media which then sparked Maswai’s outrage.
Incorrect answer
Ntsiki expressed her disgust to TshisaLIVE over the duo’s decision to use traditional outfits to promote their music.
“That is not his (Ninja’s) culture. He is not Xhosa and he has no right to parade around pretending that he is. He cannot do as he pleases with our culture. This is very serious and we should take them to the Human Rights Commission for exploiting our culture,” Ntsiki said.
She goes on to say: “He (Ninja) is not Xhosa man. He has not been to the mountain. He does not know what the blanket or the mud means. He is being disrespectful and is not representing South Africa or its cultures to the world like he probably thinks he does.”
Die Antwoord will probably have an outlandish rebuttal for this, at their upcoming shows.
Die Antwoord drama will continue until they piss off every last person on this planet, it seems.
