10-year-old DJ Dextrous One submits crazy mix for Red Bull competition
Dextrous One strives for number one.
Dextrous became the world’s youngest club DJ when he was 9 years old, according to Guinness Book of World Records, going viral.
There is of course South Africa’s very own DJ Arch Jnr, who, last time we looked was only 4 years old so how Dextrous One can be listed in the Guinness Book of World Records is a bit puzzling.
However there’s no denying that this young sprite named Dextrous is the real McCoy and his skills show for it.
A year later he’s back to fry bigger fish; ‘fish’ that gives you wings, in other words Red Bull.
Dextrous One has just uploaded a 6-minute video to enter into the Red Bull 3Style World Championship happening later this year.
He opens with a fantastic remix of the SpongeBob SquarePants theme song and then effortlessly scratches and crosses between tracks from the likes of DJ Khaled, Denzel Curry and Grandmaster Flash.
He manages to sample dozens of tracks without making the mix too busy, a skill that calls for a deep intuition.
3Stylin’
Now in its 7th year, the Red Bull 3Style World DJ Championship pins some of the world’s best DJ’s against each other in locations around the world.
After reviewing mix submissions or what I call ‘submixions’, they choose various participants who will be announced in late June.
These chosen participants will then compete (combeat) in local events running from September to November.
The attributes judged are looking for are; originality-40%, skills-25%, music selection-20% and crowd respone-15%
There are actually quite a few rules and regulations you can check out on their website
