Deadmau5 apologises to his fans for deleting his social media. He deactivated his Twitter and Facebook pages after calling all of his fans/followers ‘nothing more than a number’.
The thing about social media is that as much as it used to portray other worldly versions of ourselves that we prefer to our everyday reality, it can also (thanks to its instantaneous nature) expose our vulnerabilities.
Such is the case with the notorious self proclaimed ‘troll’ Deadmau5. After having deleted his social media accounts he has made a tumblr post that seems to show the DJ/producer reaching out to the internet that he so regularly scorns. Deadmau5 apologises and claims to be ‘far from emotionally stable’ and promises to be back in full Deadmau5 mode come the 17th of January next year.
Only, in the midst of his cyber hair flip, he has reportedly lost 3.2 million Twitter followers. Even though he was the one to curtsy out of social media only to make a reappearance later, it must still have left a bit of a sting that so many chose to give him the finger too.
Deadmau5 apologises…
“like many other human beings, I’ve been dealing with some depression issues that i don’t need to go into detail with. Id consider myself far from emotionally stable, though, not unstable enough to know support when i see it. Deactivating social media for a minute has nothing at all to do with popstars or dubstep tryhards. It was a kneejerk reaction to something i saw coming a long time ago. Also, nobodies business but my own.
id like to apologize to my fans and supporters for fucking off so abruptly, and leaving them out of the loop in terms of developments in my career and some small glimpes into my personal life…. ill resume that program for you. It’s the holidays, so ill slow things down until the new year, and chill out with friends and loved ones on vacation till the 17th or so. Then it’s back into the new studio, where ill just keep being me, and making music. Once again, sorry for being a dick to those who are fans and supporters.”
For now Deadmau5 apologises and is taking some time to chill out over the holidays. But it’s likely that it’s only a matter of time before the return of yet another diatribe.
