Dead body left undiscovered at bush doof rave
News about a dead body left undiscovered at a bush doof rave in New South Wales is making the rounds. The term doof or bush doof refers to an outdoor dance party in Australia and New Zealand.
David Gallagher, aged 24 had allegedly been dead in a parked car for twelve hours at the Omega festival before his body was found. According to reports, the police ‘found evidence of drug use in his vehicle’. Apparently, the other partygoers carried on partying after the man had died, whether or not they knew he was dead in his car seems to be unclear.
The dead body left undiscovered for all those hours was a mere two hundred metres away from the main stage. Reportedly the festival organisers of this illegal event refused to shut it down and a drug overdose is what police believe to be the cause of death. According to The Daily Telegraph evidence of drug use was found in the car.
The event
The illegal bush doof festival took place on a property in Newtown Boyd, west of Grafton. It is believable that people can get so wasted at an event that they don’t notice what is happening around them. But the dead body left undiscovered for as long as it was, paints a rather grim picture of the Omega festival and the kinds of people who attended.
Police officers reported that when they requested that everyone stop partying, they refused to listen. Detective Inspector Jameson said he was disgusted by the attitudes of the partygoers. The rest of the party continued until the next day at around lunch time.
“In my twenty six years in the force I’ve never seen such a strong disregard for human life than to continue an event when someone has died in front of you.” said the detective
