David Guetta & Showtek release track titled The Death of EDM
The Death of EDM is a new track by David Guetta & Showtek which has just been released and also features Beardyman.
Like most of what David Guetta does, he is being heavily criticized for his efforts. But this time he is berated for his weak attempt to distance himself from the very style of dance music that has made him relevant and rich with this latest single.
The Death of EDM track sounds eerily similar to ‘Pursuit’ by Gesaffelstein. So not only is the foretelling of The Death of EDM a sad shot at trying to remain ahead of the curve, but it is also a seemingly creative rip off of an already existing song.
If Guetta was aiming to redeem credibility with the world of dance music then it would seem that this project may have back fired.
David Guetta’s rise to fame has seen his musical style change and morph as he figured out what would sell the most until he landed on an electronic dance music sound that has wide mainstream appeal.
In the EDM scene he is a super star and this attention has ensured him as heavy dose of criticism as he has fans and followers.
Allegedly, part of his strategy in responding to criticism is to develop a method whereby he blatantly plagiarizes music by other artists.
Recently he had angered fans by releasing “This One’s For You”. This track was also quite similar to “Lean On” by Major Lazer and DJ Snake.
Death of EDM was released as part of the Skinkalation Vol. 2 EP, a five-track compilation for Showtek’s SKINK label.
Could David be trying to send a subliminal message to all those enthralled with EDM, that nothing more can be created or achieved with it and therefore shamelessly copying is the only thing left? Or, he could just be an unimaginative disconnected and pampered star clutching at straws under thinly veiled guises of creativity, art, and pioneering.
