Coronavirus: Tomorrowland Winter and Ultra Miami cancelled
The festivals have been postponed due to concerns over the spread of coronavirus.
As the world sits in suspense, wondering what reach the novel coronavirus will have, businesses are forced to make tough decisions in order to minimize the virus’ spread.
For Tomorrowland Winter and Ultra Miami the show will, in fact, not go on. The festivals, scheduled to take place from the 14th to 21st March in Alpe d’Huez and the 20th to 22nd of March in Miami, respectively, have been cancelled due to concerns over the spread of coronavirus, or COVID-19.
According to a Facebook post on Tomorrowland Winter’s official page, “The French Government is taking drastic measures regarding the COVID-19 virus in France. Therefore they are enforcing the cancellation of large events, bringing together people from different nationalities on closed festival grounds and event locations.”
Ultra cancelled, more like it
As reported by the Miami Herald, Miami Commissioner Manolo Reyes has confirmed that Ultra will not take place on its intended date, March 20-22. This marks the first time in the mega festival’s 21 years that it will not take place.
Ultra Miami has reportedly been postponed possibly for a full year, which effectively cancels the 2020 edition of Miami’s marquee electronic dance music event.
Seeing as the festivals draws in thousands of attendees from over 100 countries, all likely to ‘rub shoulders’ with each other, it has the potential to spread the virus far and wide- which is 100% the opposite of what we need right now.
On Tuesday, Ultra also cancelled its Abu Dhabi festival that was set to take place this week.
There will always be festivals and the chance to rave, but right now we need to contain the spreading of the coronavirus.
