Concert SA could help fund your next tour
Concert SA is an initiative that helps SA artists with the funds needed to go on tour.
Concert SA was started in 2013 and in that time they have received nearly six hundred applications and have supported more than one hundred and ten tours. They are looking to support more tours and are calling out to local performers to apply. They will be selecting new projects to support in March. They span genres from indigenous music, Jazz, Kwaito, Folk, and Hip Hop.
Concert SA is enabling musicians to tour their country and the rest of the Southern African region. If they are supporting your tour they will provide funds for live music performances, collaborations, and performance styled workshops. Concert SA is run by The SAMRO foundation and is a joint South African & Norwegian project.
Build a thriving live music scene
They are aiming to build and resource a thriving live music scene in Southern Africa. They’re also looking to develop local interest in live music and they are keen on carrying out live music workshops at schools.
“Our personal and professional growth in our recent tour to Tanzania involved dealing with challenging circumstances while still offering the best performances we could. After the tour, we are definitely more efficient and equipped to deal with any situation than before the tour. Now that we know which venues, festivals and promoters are worthwhile from either a financial or strategic viewpoint, we could organise a tour focusing only on the performances that would have the most impact. This was our first international tour and seeing people connect to our music so far from home was an amazing experience. Afforded the privilege of experiencing the beautiful country and culture through music has been an unforgettable experience which we will treasure forever. What a privilege to be able to grow friendship and human connection through music,” said Bonj Mpanza, a vocalist of Future Afro band.
If your band is looking for funding for your next tour this year, you may want to apply as soon as possible. Concert SA is focused on financing tours and concerts, including regional, national or provincial tours, as well as performances at festivals and showcases. You can request as much as R45,000 and the deadline for the application is the 26th of February.
