Concept N – the earless headphones by Sony
Concept N is the new earless headphones by Sony. The idea behind this kind of headphone listening is that you will be able to tune into the music of your choice but still be aware of your surroundings.
The Concept N headphones sits around your neck and directs the sound up towards your ears.
The concept product was revealed at SXSW and it forms part of Sony’s Future Lab initiative aimed at driving forward technological innovation.
The band which goes around your neck looks like something out of a space age/alien mother ship movie. Speakers are built into the neck band and you have the extra option of actual ear pieces you could use, these sit behind the ear and can be worn for extra audio clarity.
The Concept N headphones has voice control and camera features which sees it function as a basic version of the Google Glass.
Given that this is a concept product it is still in its prototype phase and there isn’t yet any news on when the final version of the headphones will be available for sale.
Many tech companies have been gunning towards the creation of wireless and ear-free style music listening. Such as Batband, a start-up which was funded on Kickstarter – these direct sounds straight through the skull into your inner ear.
The Concept N hedphones focuses on listening to music in a world that is saturated with modern sounds and noises. It is intended to keep the listener entertained without completely blocking out the world. This way you will be able to use these headphones when you are riding your bike or taking a walk and you will be aware of any possible danger. You will even be able to carry out a conversation while listening to music.
The only drawback it seems is that you have to wear it like a necklace, which looks a bit clunky and could get in the way of your personal style and dress sense.
