Cardi B speaks out about sexual harassment incident
Cardi B was sexually harassed during a magazine photoshoot.
In an interview for We TV’s Untold Stories of Hip Hop series with TV and radio host Angie Martine, the US rapper detailed sexual harassment she experienced during a magazine photoshoot:
“I went to shoot for this magazine and the photographer, he was trying to get close to me like, ‘Yeah, you want to get in this magazine?’ Then he pulled his dick out. I was so fucking mad … You know what’s crazy? I told the magazine owner and he just looked at me like, ‘So? And?’”
Such violations should not be the norm, in fact it shouldn’t be happening AT ALL. Even more shockingly is the fact that the magazine owner shrugged it off as if were part of the job. What kind?! The normalization of sexual harassment is shockingly vile and needs to change.
It happens every day
Cardi didn’t name the magazine or photographer involved or when the incident took place- which dismisses accountability on their part- but added:
“When I see the #MeToo movement – there’s girls from the hood I know that went through the same type of treatment. They make you feel like you got to do a certain type of thing. It happens every day.”
In a 2018 interview, Cardi spoke about the same incident, saying: “I bet if one of these women stands up and talks about it, people are going to say, ‘So what? You’re a ho. It don’t matter.’”
Thankfully the #MeToo movement has given voices to victims, accountability to perpetrators and eyes to the rest that will change the paradigm of sexual misconduct.
