British ravers hold peaceful protest party
A peaceful protest party was held in Shoreditch, London this past Saturday. It was known as the ‘Freedom To Party’ event.
The idea behind the peaceful protest party was to make a stand against wrongful persecution of those who belong to the rave community.
“I know they’re illegal, but there’s no harm being done. These empty, abandoned buildings are being used for good, for happiness. We are a friendly people, and we can have a good time without causing trouble.” Said one of the peaceful protest party event organisers
“We do no damage and leave the places as we’d found them. All we want to do is dance properly.” Said one of the protest attendees
This demonstration has come to light after recent occurrences in London’s night life scene that has caused tension between the police and ordinary people.
Gentrification has seen the closing down of a few of London’s key night club spots and this has led to ravers having fewer places to party.
The underground music scene in the city has also struggled with shutdowns and equipment seizure by the authorities. Back in 1990 ten thousands ravers got together London’s Trafalgar Square to protest unfair clamp downs on partying.
The organisers really wanted to prove that it is possible to host a rave party that is peaceful. The event went off without a hitch and it seems the point has been made. Perhaps hosting events like the peaceful protest party will help soothe the nerves of local authorities. Convincing them of the fact that raving can be carried out in a non-violent and non-destructive manner.
Meanwhile, last year in November, English police shut down a party and arrested twenty eight attendees and had twelve officers injured in the process.
