Britain’s Got Talent and the 65 year old DJ contestant
Variety talent contest Britain’s Got Talent was created to showcase the diverse talent found in the UK.
From the classic singers ranging from solo to group you also get the likes of jugglers, magicians, gymnastics arts and dancing as well as freaky talents never even imagined.
I understand that this show is more about entertainment than actual talent and it is admirable. I just feel that by letting people with a mediocre talent (at best) go through you are taking away from people who have nurtured their talents for years.
DJ Dizzy- aptly named if ever…
Enter Christine Tew, the 65-year-old recently retired registrar and nurse who turned the Britain’s Got Talent stage into a ‘rave’ of cringe-worthy proportions.
She took to the stage very unassumingly in a brown cardigan and kind of just stood there. Swooping out of the wings came her DJ setup. She then threw off her cardigan, revealing a glitzy, shimmering top and she launched into her DJ set.
Tew played a few seconds of each song from the likes of Fatboy Slim, David Bowie and Frank Sinatra. The only thing is that she didn’t mix AT ALL! However the crowd as well as judges went mad, dancing about.
Her ‘mixing’ was dizzying- more like a juke box than anything. Okay I get that she is super old and it’s commendable that she is doing something that she enjoys but if it was anyone else they would have gotten 4 reds.
Maybe Simon Cowell has softened due to his own old age?
Maybe Cowell is still harbouring thoughts of launching his ‘Ultimate DJ Show?’
Maybe I’m being overcritical due to my love and appreciation for good mixing.
Maybe Britain’s Got Talent is running out of actual talent.
Decide for yourself
