Breakdancing may be added to the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris
Breakdancing might be added to the 2024 Olympic Games itinerary.
How it works is that hosts can suggest 4 sports to be potentially included in the games, with hip Paris choosing breakdancing, skateboarding, surfing and climbing, which is sure to gain the Games millions of viewers.
Traditional sports like athletics and swimming are amazing and all, but it would be such a treat to support your country in breakdancing.
Breakdancing isn’t a random suggestion; The sport was included in the 2018 Youth Olympics in Brazil, where Russian Sergei Chernyshev won the gold for the boys division while Japan’s Ramu Kawai won the girls’ title.
Three-time canoeing Olympic champion and head of the Paris 2024 organizing committee, Tony Estanguet, said the inclusion of the new sports would make the Olympics “more urban” and “more artistic”.
It’s a breakthrough
A team Great Britain spokesperson said:
“Although we did not compete in what was an invitational event at the recent Youth Olympic Games in Buenos Aires, we did witness the popularity of breakdancing among fans there.”
Of course it was popular; it’s an enthralling sport to watch and supporting your countrymen to victory on an Olympic level is the ultimate thrill.
The IOC will rule on the inclusion of the sports before the year 2020, so watch this space for updates.
In other Olympic news, Paris organizers announced that the public will be able to immerse themselves in the Olympic experience, through virtual and connected sports.
Additionally, members of the public will be able to run the marathon course on the same day as the event – straight after the Olympic race – under the same conditions as those faced by the athletes.
The 2024 Olympic Games in Paris is going to be one helluva show – especially if there’s some breakdancing going on 😊
