Bombshelter Beast – Afrobalkan Kwaito, a brand-new sound out of Jozi
Bombshelter Beast will deliver an explosive performance at Rumours Rock City tonight (4 May ’18).
Take everything you think you know about big bands and detonate it because Bombshelter Beast is a beastly band of explosive proportions.
Hailing from Johannesburg, the group consists of over 10 (15 to be exact) members honing skills ranging from accordions to saxes, clarinets and vuvuzelas, vocals and storytelling and even opera singing.
Whatever instruments you can think of, chances are they’ve implemented it into their eclectic sound.
Taking inspiration from plethora styles, their genre can be described as ‘Afrobalkan Skadubhall’ where you can experience a Jozi-mixed grill of old school Kwaito & House, Drum n Bass, Dancehall, Dub, Ska, Balkan, Boeremusiek, Hip Hop, Ghoema, Rock, and the odd sneaky bit of Jazz – all peppered with badass rapping & live improvisations.
There’s no taming the Beast
May the Fourth be with you as they will be performing at Rumours Rock City tonight with special guest Jaco from Bittereinder as well as a performance from Hemelbesem & Yoma.
Bombshelter will release two new singles on radio nationwide which showcases the diversity of their sound and energy.
The major first single is Taka Takata, a little throwback to the days of Kwaito dominance and features two legends of South African Hip Hop and Kwaito- Pitch Black Afro and Mapaputsi.
Taka Takata was originally recorded as the title track for a comedy film featuring Trevor Noah and Kagiso Lediga, and the two top selling rappers added some super fresh freestyling to the session.

Entrance is R100, for more info check out the event page and don’t miss out on Bombshelter Beast.
