Boiler Room Festival 2020 SA announces Cassper Nyovest and more
Boiler Room Festival 2020 is taking place in Johannesburg this April.
Global independent music platform and cultural curator, Boiler Room, returns to South Africa this April to bring its latest experience to local fans – Boiler Room Festival.
South African music lovers are no strangers to Boiler Room: the platform has hosted events across the country over the last few years, exposing audiences to fresh sounds and exciting new talent across amapiano, Gqom, house, and hip-hop.
The Boiler Room Festival continues this legacy by harnessing Johannesburg’s vibrant energy to push all limits at a one-day-only, multi-stage event.
Broadcast online to the world, the ambitious programme will feature international and South African headliners alongside local artists at the cutting edge. The format will be quintessential Boiler Room: intimate, raw and in-the-round.
Boiling over with talent
As part of its first wave of announcements, Boiler Room has just released the first names on the local line-up. Among the list of incredible local talent are:
Cassper Nyovest: one of Africa’s biggest rappers and certainly one of the most successful music artists to come out of South Africa. A career spanning almost 20 years has seen Cassper perform to sold-out audiences locally and around the world.
BCUC: an eclectic and energetic jazz sensation from Soweto, whose sounds are a combination of the traditional whistle, percussion and a rocking guitar, creating what has been labelled “indigenous funky soul”.
Kabza De Small: the “king of amapiano”. Hailing from Pretoria, he is a pioneer of the genre with many of his tracks hitting record streaming numbers across multiple platforms.
Performance art duo and fashion icons, FAKA, explore a combination of mediums ranging from sound, live performance, literature, video and photography. Their growing appeal stems from their unapologetic representation of black queer culture in South Africa.
Early Bird tickets are only R150 for a limited time. Get yours online at festival.boilerroom.tv and on the ground via Herotickets.
