Black Coffee’s Music is King Durban show – the lowdown
Black Coffee’s Music is King extravaganza is taking place at Durban’s Kings Park on the 15th of December.
Internationally acclaimed, award-winning and master of the decks Black Coffee is taking his Music is King extravaganza to Durban on the 15th of December, after the Johannesburg show on the 14th.
Although featuring art and fashion, the title says it all- Music is King- and he’s made sure of securing a most royal line-up from the melting pot of talent both locally and internationally.
Leave your ego at the door; the purpose of the concert is to celebrate music and unite the industry, as varying artists take the same stage with the sole mission to entertain.
“It is not about who sells the most or who is cooler, it is about music. We are trying to create a melting pot of different kinds of music. Whether the artist is big or small, as long as we feel they will bring something to the line-up,” Black Coffee said.
A royal line-up
Black Coffee will be joined on stage by Sjava, AKA, Samthing Soweto, and the Distruction Boyz to name a few and will be headlined by UK musician and producer Tom Misch.
The addition of AKA to the line-up may be a surprise to some considering their former “beef,” but in his own works, Black Coffee feels that “AKA is one of the most amazing live artists on this continent, so why not.”
Durban locals Distruction Boyz are markedly excited that the show is coming to their hometown, with Zipho “Goldmax” Mthembu saying: “This is where we started, this is where people started loving Gqom music before we branched out to the whole world. So people can expect that we do amazing things on that stage.”
