Black Coffee slams SA Radio stations
World renowned DJ Black Coffee slams SA radio stations for reversing the 90% local quota.
Coffee has expressed his dismay on Twitter Tweeting “Old American music back on our local Radio Stations….there goes our culture.”
Naturally the tweet sparked tension as some agreed while others disagreed. One DJ Ash accused Black Coffee of ‘pushing hate.’
They then got into a ‘Tweet-off.’
Black Coffee feels that by playing mostly American music on our local radio stations we will lose our culture.
His army voted for the 90% quota to stay though the SABC interim board decided to reverse the quota. We are no strangers to the plight of the SABC with the quota being one of the perturbations.
It is said they lost a lot of advertising money when they went 90% local and would probably crumble if they had to continue.
So it’s back to the 60%/40%, which is set by Icasa.
The pot calling the Black Coffee a kettle
In the Tweet thread you see a lot of fans arguing that Coffee is a sell-out and that he hasn’t done anything to nurture local talent recently.

Some people say that he has lost his own culture, playing in the international arena. Others say he is flying the Saffa flag high.
It is social media remember, opinions are rife!
Our local music industry has always struggled to get the recognition and support it deserves. The music industry as a community should work together and uplift each other and fans should show support by going to gigs and buying albums.
Is it right that Black Coffee slams SA radio?
