This Black Coffee BET Award winner award for Best International Act: Africa at this year’s awards ceremony is another feather in the cap for SA’s finest.
The South African DJ appeared to be equal parts stunned and overwhelmed in the short clip he posted to Facebook regarding his win, he said…
“Finally South Africa has a BET Award” and in another post he said “Thank you Africa!!!”.
This news is a genuine coupe for the local house music scene and to a larger degree, the entire South African music industry. To have one of our very own pioneering music producers earn the recognition and respect of an institution like BET Entertainment is something to celebrate.
The competition
This Black Coffee BET Award win has seen him manage to scoop the accolade ahead of other South African artists such as AKA and Cassper Nyovest including Diamond Platnumz from Tanzania, Ghanaian star MzVee, Côte d’Ivoire’s Serge Beynaud and Wizkid and Yemi Alade rom Nigeria. He ended up being the Black Coffee BET Award winner for Best International Act: Africa.
The BET International Awards Presentation Ceremony took place on Saturday in Los Angeles.
Before this Black Coffee BET Award win he shared his thoughts on the South African presence at the awards show with Okay Africa…
“It’s exciting, I mean to see us getting that kind of recognition. I’ve seen the involvement. I’ve seen how much they [BET] want us to be involved in the pre-parties, to attend the concert they’re doing. t’s really really nice to see, how they’re involving us, not just in the ceremony. It’s exciting, it’s exciting times us being given such a platform.”
