WATCH: Spike Jonze Beastie Boys documentary trailer
The Beastie Boys documentary will screen in a handful of cinemas from 3 April.
Who better to document the legendary Beastie Boys than fellow legend, friend and acclaimed director Spike Jonze? I mean the end result is bound to be a masterpiece and judging by the trailer, it surely is.
In January we reported on the live documentary, titled Beastie Boys Story, but now there’s something more for fans to chew on: a trailer. And if you weren’t interested in watching the film before, you will be now.
The trailer features archival video of the trio as well as new footage of surviving members Mike D and Ad-Rock talking about the band’s history (with emphasis on their friendship) on stage.
Beastie Boys Story will follow the release of Jonze’s first photography book, Beastie Boys, which features hundreds of photos of the group taken throughout their career -available from 17 March.
Beastie Boys Story
“There are some friends you have lunch with so many times over the years, you know their order,” Mike D and Ad-Rock said in a statement. “Spike is one of those friends. And even when you don’t recognize anything on the menu, he comes up with something good for the whole table. Like when we wondered what to do when our book comes out… then Spike placed his order: You will put on a show for the children.”
Spike Jonze added, “I owe Beastie Boys a lot. One time, they pulled me out of a burning ship, and another time they helped me cheat on my college exam to get into Florida State. So, it was a real privilege to get to reunite with them and help them tell their story.”
Watch the trailer of the Beastie Boys documentary below, with the film slated for release on 3 April, marking the 26th anniversary of the group’s iconic 1994 album “Ill Communication.”
