Bazique venue change – breaking news
Breaking news just in is that there has been a Bazique venue change due to extreme flooding at the Elgin country club.
The good news is that the new venue looks pretty amazing and is even closer to Cape Town CBD.
Here’s what they have said:
We have got some pretty big news – first, we gonna start with the tricky bit then we gonna move onto why it’s such amazing development in Baziqueland.
So, the first bit is that there has been massive winter and then summer rainfall out in the Elgin Valley and as a result, the huge dam that Bazique is set around has filled to record levels and flooded the beaches and camping area that Bazique uses.
We waited as long as we could, hoping the rain would stop and the dam would empty as it always does in the summer months… but the rain just kept coming down and the long term weather reports show more to come, so we had to look for another venue – and boy, did we get lucky.
Ruitersvlei Estate
Bazique is moving to Ruitersvlei Estate near Paarl, 35 minutes’ drive from Cape Town and as you can see from the drone footage below, it’s an absolute doozy.
A big, beautiful, cobalt blue, warm water, quarry swimming dam for our beach party and floating dancefloor (we are busy creating sand beaches around the dam as we speak) and a then huge, dry lakebed on the other side of the lake that makes a perfect playa for all the late-night stages and art installations.
It’s also ideal for Art cars to move around on.
Finally, it’s mid-March in Paarl, which means almost guaranteed hot, sunny weather and no more worries about fr*!kin rain !!
To say we are delighted with our new home would be an understatement.
Now we are aware that some of you may have booked rental accommodation near Grabouw – we are still more than a month away from the festival and so you should be able to cancel your booking and get your deposit back and then rebook somewhere in Paarl (which is 12 minutes away from the venue and has good Uber service).
However, If for any reason you lose your deposit on your booking, pls email us at media@bazique.co.za and we will talk directly with you to see how we can help.
All your Glamping and Car Camping bookings still apply and the new campsite is perfectly flat and is only a 100 meters to the South Beach on the dam for that beautiful morning swim.
For anyone living in the Northern Suburbs, we are just down the road and you can buy your weekend pass to Bazique and come and go as you like if you don’t wanna camp.
It’s been a huge stress and a massive amount of work for the team to have to move a festival with 5 stages so late in the day, but they say good things come from a crisis – and we feel incredibly blessed to have upgraded Bazique’s venue as a result of this one!
